Chairman of the Administration and Justice Committee MP Robert Ghanem said on Wednesday that he was ready to push for the formation of a senate in Lebanon’s next parliament, following the elections on June 7.

In an interview with al-Markaziya news agency on Wednesday, he said President Michel Sleiman’s proposal for a new elective body was “positive,” and “the solution that could create balance among Lebanon’s state institutions.”

“If during tomorrow’s parliament session they decide to amend the constitution so that the voting age is lowered to 18 years of age, then citizens between 18 and 21 will vote for the first time in the municipal elections in a year and a half,” he said, adding that the amendment would not be in effect until after the coming June 7 elections.
